Starts off with ambient sound to match the flashing lights, diegetic sound to match the scene, loud scream as jump scare, no sound when titles appear, a loud band is used when changing scenes, "scary" things are enhanced with loud no-diagetic sound to empasise the fact that it isn't normal. There isn't much diagetic sound from the actual scenes more overlays of sound clips of the film, as tralor progresses the is sound on the titles, faint heart beat instead of the sound from the clip bneing used, ambient sound when title appears.

The initial opening music is reminiscent to that of 'Halloween' and 'Friday the 13th'. This soundtrack implies that something is wrong and a causes a tension to build up meaning something is about to happen. The music changes once Keanu leaves his bedroom to a quiet more ambient sounding track, which contrasts the build up of loud more intense music which are played both before and after this scene. The music becomes quieter when the women talking to help the audience hear what they are saying as it may bare importance to their motive. Additionally, the diegetic sound of Keanu screaming shows his pain and suffering in contrast to the woman's cackling laugh showing her enjoyment of the whole situation

The Human Centipede 3- 2015 |
When the distribution company appears, there is a sudden alarm in which infers trouble ahead. The, what seems to be the marshal, is continuously heard near the start and narrates about the setting of the film and what is happening. As the doctor is talking about his plan, new shots appear with the sound of the alarm from the beginning. This shows that it is showing something important or leading up to something important. At the end, there is a 5 second part where there are just screams of prisoners which shows that the movie is most likely going to affect its audience in the same way.

Flight Plan - 2005 |
The first bit of sound that you hear at 0:04 is a soundtrack of a soft piano tune. It sets the tone for most of the trailer as it lasts for 40 seconds. The piano starts with the shot of the daughter, representing her soft innocence, and due to the length also her importance. Dialogue is used overlapping the soundtrack, but the viewer does not always see the speaker. This technique is often used in trailers as there is limited time to get in both the shots and speech.
The plane that takes off at 0:33 has a very loud sound. This is to demonstrate its importance in the film as it is heard over everything. Its a defining moment and this use of sound is a good way to show it. The sound is realistic and sounds as it should. When the mother wakes up and sees that her daughter is not there, the soundtrack stops and there is a moment of silence as the scene fades to black. This links in to the trailer later when they claim that her daughter is dead, as it is like a moment silence to think of the departed. Then a loud, deep noise drops in as the scene once again starts up, this indicates an increase in tempo in the trailer. Lots of dialogue is then used and it overlaps each other to show the chaos of looking for her daughter. If you listen through headphones, each new sentence seems to be coming from a different direction. This method is used to show that the mother is all looking everywhere for her daughter. The dialogue becomes louder as the mother starts shouting and the soundtrack has become a little more intense. The scene starts to fade to black every now and then and the soundtrack is synchronised as it drops every time that the black shot is shown. There is also aloud drum noise used to show how important this is. |
The soundtrack is then broken up suddenly as the pilot shouts 'She's dead' at 1:32. A loud, deep noise is once again used. Then the soundtrack becomes more slow and sad as it sinks into the mother that her child may actually not be on board the flight. There is also little dialogue in this bit compared to earlier, which could represent mourning.
At 1:58, a new soundtrack is introduced when the mother sees the heart her daughter drew earlier. It is very fast paced and therefore shows how the action is now starting again as the mother is going to be searching for her daughter against force and punishing those who lied to her. Gun fire and shouting is mixed in for the next 20 seconds of this soundtrack. This shows how far she and they are going to go. The soundtrack ends at 2:20 as the penultimate title is shown of the film, telling us that the trailer is over and a resolution has been found, off screen. This makes the audience want to know what happened. |
