I created our website skeleton today, and decided on my blog picture. I chose fire, as arsonists have not been overly done in the horror world, and so might be fun to try as it has little pre-determined clichés. I also created a mind map with our initial ideas for a horror. This should help us pick an idea and will hopefully of generated a unique idea.
Today we also looked at trailers in preparation for imitating it for our swede trailer. This is going to help us transfer from creating a linear opening title sequence to a jumpy non-linear trailer. This imitation will help us by showing how to reveal little information but still using powerful shots. It will also help us think of a big picture, and plan out how we will create our trailer. We will have to use lots of locations, and have a solid plot to go off of. We found that the trailer of Unfriended or The Blair Witch Project would be easy to recreate, but we wanted to try something a little more challenging in order to try using overlays from the actual trailer.
If we did recreate Unfriended then we can use the school computers as almost all the clips used are on Skype or YouTube or Facebook. This means we can easily recreate the trailer without needing to go on location, as the backgrounds for the Face-Cam seem to be either too dark, or obscured by the characters face. This means we can all be in the same room and so we can direct each other easily. The most difficult part will be the transitions, and how we overlay them onto each other when in editing.
If we do The Blair Witch Project, we can use the editor to inset the writing which goes in between the shots. We can use any location for the first shot as its are close up on someone handling objects on a dark background. Then we can use the school parking-lot for the shot of the two cameras filming each other. Next there is a lot of shots in a cemetery, which can be filmed in one go. The shot of the man talking has a non distinct background, so can be filmed anywhere with windows. There are several trees next to Clara's house and also a very similar lane as the one shown later on. The shot of the woman in front of the trees and the walking around the house can be done on the field by the scrap wood, as the trees there are closely compacted. The shot of the house hidden in the trees can be done in Clara's lane, by angling it through the trees, and at her house. unfortunately I don't think we can do the shot of the front of the house in the same shot, as it was done in the trailer, but we can transition in a shot of Clara's house. The inside of the house can be done easily by filming around one of the classrooms, which has some brown paper with the graffiti and damage on it.
Overall these two are the easiest and can be done quickly and with little to no problems, but we also wanted to do something which expanded our ability and posed a bit of a challenge.

Today we decided that we are going to definitely recreate the Blair Witch Project as we feel like we need to have one complete swede trailer. However we also said that we will take some of the challenging scenes from other trailers and create a compilation of us recreating them as that way we can also learn some new skills.
I also did some work on the research side of the site. I looked at some horror posters, and analysed them in order to decide what we want on ours.

I have recently been researching the bible and its more disturbed stories along with the downfalls of man. This could be an interesting concept as you do not have the focus on one person but more on one atmosphere or one emotion. An interesting idea with this is the seven deadly sins as they are not specific people in the bible, but are instead emotions/states of mind. However this can be a little complicated for a trailer as there will be little explanation on what is actually going on and to spell it out for the audience will ruin any atmosphere we could have. so if we did leave it up to the audience to figure out what it going on, then there is a good chance that they will misinterpret it and be put off

We had a meeting today to talk about what sort of ideas we currently have for our trailer. I found that I liked Aaron's idea about the lost/found footage as it gives us a lot of leeway with who the killer is and how they die. However the downside, and reason we decided against it is that it also limits what we can do. For it to be found footage, it would mean that the only type of shot we could have would be handheld. This means that most of our footage would be from the same hight and have similar angles when looking at people. Also after looking at some trailers, we realised that we would need a minimum of 13 locations, and we would be very limited if we just used the woods. I feel as if his idea may of been inspired by the 'Blair Witch Project' that we are doing for our swede. Clara's idea of the bullying, I feel has kind of been overdone and also I feel that it wasn't really thought out. The idea of necromancy is original but it was pitched as more of an opening title sequence idea then a trailer. This idea also feels similar to our other swede option of 'Unfriended' as it revolves around bullies and their victim killing them. Our final thought of the psychopathic not quite human/vampire has also not really been thought out. The idea would require many flashbacks in order to fully make sense, and that would again limit the number of locations. Also the trailer would be giving away the entire story for it to make sense, where as a trailer NEEDS ambiguity to reel the audience into the cinemas to find out what happens. We also decided against my idea of using a bible story as there was a worry that it might upset those of the religion. This means that we currently have no idea as to what we are going to do for our trailer. Overall the ideas seem highly influenced by our swede, and so i hope that once we have a proper feel for what we can do, we can branch out and come up with some more unique ideas.

I have been looking into the art of CGI. I am aware that our knowledge of CGI is limited and that any work we could do at our level in our trailer would look awful but I wanted to explore what we could do for the cover of our Trailer. This is because I know that most supernatural trailers only show a glimpse of the fully decked out monster, yet they are usually the main image for the film and so are used in both posters and magazines as the iconic image that summarises it. I am most interested in trying out a technique called 'Parallax' which make a still photo 3D and moves it
At this point in our planning I have found that we do not have a clear idea on what we are going to do as our final piece, and so I wanted to research what type of horror genres we could do. After this I decided that i would like to do a mix between a psychological and a supernatural type horror. I thought it would be nice to do this centred around an object instead of a person, as it has not often been done, and when it was in Annabell it was done well

I am a little frustrated with my group as when approached about doing some harder horror clips from other trailers, that are now coming out with talk about how it is unnecessary and that they will not take their own time away from our swede in lessons in order to film and edit it. For this reason I am going to create the swede with my software at home. This will mean that I can both learn how to create these trickier shots, and also I can asses the two different editing software's, and write about them both on the site. I am also a little annoyed that we started off discussing about creating a psychological trailer that is different from what is out there, but our ideas keep on going back to the cliché and the easy options.

I finally got around to researching and reading the others research on sound. I found that the music, helps immerse the audience into the scene and intrigue them towards the product. Without any sound the scene seems pointless and the intricate atmosphere is gone. A good example of this would be
