The top five highest rated horror movies mainly consist of slasher/supernatural sub genres. The fact that there is a supernatural movie in the top five shows that there is already a good market for the type of film we want to make. We believe that this is a good sign of success as these ratings can change at any time so the supernatural market is more popular at this time. We did not want to do a slasher as we feel it has been done in every way possible, but with a supernatural film we have an almost unlimited source of ideas we can explore. Another key theme in the top 5 is that they all do something new and different. For example Alien, which is their third highest rated horror, brought together sci-fi and horror and nobody had seen this type of film before. Another example being the truly iconic Psycho. There were few films at there at this time like this and none of them did it this well. It was in most peoples opinions the first true introduction to the popular slasher sub-genre with iconic scenes such as Janet Leigh being stabbed in the shower. |
According to IMDb the current most popular movies seem to range Comedy-Horror to Fantasy Horror. However, there seems to be slasher sub genre of film in this list. This means that either there is no demand for one or there is a gap in the market for one. I believe the case is the latter, due to a surge in supernatural and horror films, due to them being cheaper to produce, meaning soon the market will become over saturated with them and a new sub genre will need to replace it meaning our trailer could be a success as there is nothing like it in the market.
