Pay the Ghost (2015)
Pay the Ghost is an upcoming Nicolas Cage (Nicolas Kim Coppola) horror film. The trailer involves around 115 shots with around 57 shots involving dialogue. These are very influential as the shots go from very slow and atmospheric then as the trailer continues, the shots come quicker and quicker and the whole trailer becomes more fast paced. This makes the viewer feel as though the characters that have dialogue in the trailer are going to be important in the total film once the film is out.
Ouija (2014)
Ouija was a horror film released in 2014. It's first official trailer features the use of 130 shots over it's 2 minute 30 second running time, this accounts for just over 1 shot per second. Exactly half of the shots feature dialogue. Additionally, 11 locations were used varying from both internal and external locations. These shots use this amount of dialogue, and so many locations as it has to set the atmosphere for the actual film, and reveal where the journey takes place, while not giving too much away like who the spirit is.
Cooties (2015)
Cooties is an upcoming comedy horror film starring Elijah Wood. With a running time of 2 minutes 15 seconds it has 118 shots in it, this averages out to just over 1 shot per second. However it should be noted that each shot isn't one second as some shots last more than 2 seconds at the start compared to the rapid succession of some shot towards the end of the trailer. The amount of shots featuring dialogue equates to 50 which is just under half the total number of shots. The trailer features 17 locations, however most of these locations of in one large area, in this case it's the school. however they have revisited locations later on at a different time in the story, this would be effective to our planning as if we are struggling to find a variety of locations we can revisit the some of the locations twice to show that those locations are pivotal to the plot of the film.
The Visit (2015)
The Visit is a recent found-footage horror film directed by M. Night Shyamalan. With a running time of 2 minutes and 15 seconds it features 76 shots, this is roughly 1 shot every 2 seconds, this indicates that some of the initial shots are longer at the start of the trailer and progressively get shorter as the action within the trailer increases. Over the course of the trailer only 44 shots have dialogue played alongside them, this shows us that just over half the shots in the trailer feature dialogue, which is something we should take into account as we could attempt to include a similar shot to dialogue ratio when it comes to our final trailer. Finally, only 9 locations are used, but only 3 or 4 locations are featured prominently, such as the house, and the other locations are just featured briefly at the start of the trailer.
