Horror Theorist Research
Wes Craven -
Wesley Earl Craven is an American writer, producer, actor and film director. He most famous for working on horror films mostly the Slasher genre. Wesley Earl Craven has worked on films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and the Scream franchise.
Wes Craven believes that all horrors are more effective and less obvious if they take place in a stereotypical safe place therefore he chooses to set his horrors in places such as family homes, hospitals or schools.
These type of places an audience wouldn't think but horror goes on. This is why his movies were so good because it caught the audience of guard. He also uses the theory that there is usually an absence of parents in the characters life and most certainly within the film. This is because the parents represent an added dimension of safety.

Carol Clover -
Clover believes that the male killer in the film tends to have either issues in the past such as childhood or are sexually disturbed from previous events.
Female killers tend to have gender confusion or are disturbed from a previous event an example would be 'Friday the 13th'.
She also conveys that the killer often enjoys inflicting pain to others due to pain they have experienced in real life.
the last theory she has about the deaths of victims in slasher films is that the victim is often killed in what is supposed to be a safe place such as home or school.

Stephen King
Stephen King wrote a horror theory book called 'Danse Macabre'. Stephen King is a horror legend who has written countless horror books and who likes to use irony. He has written horror classics like Carrie, The Shining and Salem's Lot and also two of what can be considered the best film adaptations; The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption.
In 'Danse Macabre' King talks about the influence of contemporary societal fears and anxieties on the horror genre. .
King talks about several theories and observations of horror over its life, like the Apollonian and Dionysian horror genre. In Greek mythology Apollo and Dionysus are both gods and sons of Zeus. Apollo was the god of reason and logical thinking whilst Dionysus was the god of wine and ecstasy (these can then create chaos, uncover raw instincts and instill insanity). King states that although he is slightly going into what he calls "academic bullshit" in order to make horror you have to combine Apollonian and Dionysian methods to make a perfect blend. "Without order, there is no insanity"-Stephen King
